The mission of the library is to support curriculum taught in the classroom, enhance the lives of students through an understanding and love of literature, provide students with the information literacy training to become life long learners, and responsible users of
ideas and information.



Each class has a library time scheduled weekly so students learn to use the library regularly and effectively. Using the words of

Orville Prescott:
"Few children learn to love books by themselves. Someone has to lure them into the wonderful world of the written word; someone has to show them the way."

Today that world has become more complex with the addition of the Internet. Learning the difference between fact and fiction has never been so important. Children learn to appreciate and use what they have in house and learn how to use the Internet safely. The skills or organizing, reviewing, sharing, and evaluating these information is learned through the research of classroom projects.

Our library automated system provides us with flexibility in the circulation of textbooks, and library materials. 

 

The Accelerated Reader diagnostic reading placement and comprehension quizzes assist staff in determining the readability level of all students.
 

Ruskin's web page also has recommended sites for homework help, curriculum on-line activities that support textbooks used in the classroom, and an English learners' page and beginner readers on-line activities.
