Ruskin Elementary School - Principal's Message

Welcome to Ruskin!

Ruskin Elementary School is one of 10 elementary schools within the Berryessa Union School District. Thanks to the collective efforts of parents, staff, community and a supportive district office, this truly is a unique and special place for students to learn and grow academically and socially.

Ruskin has a well-deserved reputation for being a high-achieving school thanks to a strong group of hard-working and supportive parents. As a committed group moving forward collaboratively to form a strong and vibrant Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the PTA meets monthly with teachers, support staff and our Principal to discuss fundraising as well as supporting classroom and community events throughout the school year. As a result of this partnership, money is raised that goes directly towards the benefit of our students: field trips, educational assemblies, acquisition of items that enhance classroom instruction, STEM nights and various annual community celebrations.

The caring staff at Ruskin is comprised of dedicated, talented, and committed life-long learners who are focused on providing the highest quality educational experience possible for the students they serve. The average Ruskin teacher has 15 years of classroom teaching experience. Teacher turnover is very low and some who have chosen to stay become permanent fixtures! Once a teacher sets foot on our campus, they are immediately drawn to the family atmosphere and collaborative environment. We hope that you feel that “caring” buzz in the air, as well.

At Ruskin, every student has the opportunity to participate in a safe and nurturing environment that encourages growth and ownership of their school community. In each classroom, the instructional environment is engaging and collaborative, and the attention to differentiation meets the needs of all children and raises their levels of achievement. Moreover, there are leadership opportunities such as K-Kids and Student Leadership as well as other programs that enhance academic and social development like Little Buddies. In addition to the district’s only elementary school Science Lab, students may also enjoy high interest programs like Leadership, Lego Robotics, Math Olympiad, and Coding, to name a few.

Ruskin Elementary School is a special place where ensuring a high-quality education and providing a meaningful social experience are the passions for everyone who works at this campus. Every staff member comes to work excited to be part of this thriving educational community!
